While U.S. Job Openings Rise, It’s Not Easy to Find the Right Fit
Job openings nationwide are at their highest point since 2000, according to a recent report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. In July, there were 5.8 million jobs available, the largest number in the past 15 years and a sharp increase from the 5.4 million in May.
Healthcare was one of four industries with significantly greater job availability in the past year. In the prior 12 months, there were 174,000 more open jobs in healthcare and social services, behind the increase in professional and business services (+452,000), but ahead of accommodation and food services (+141,000), and retail trade (+136,000).
The upturn in open healthcare positions is good news for nurses, physicians assistants (PAs), therapists, laboratory technicians and other professionals. However, the underlying reason for greater job availability was due to a gap between the number of hires and the number of openings. That variance indicates that many healthcare employers are finding it difficult to find well-qualified workers for their open positions.
One solution for physician groups, clinics, hospitals and other healthcare organizations is to partner with a staffing firm like All Medical Personnel on a strategic level for assistance with workforce planning and forecasting. Our team can also provide temporary, project or temp-to-perm staffing services to help healthcare employers fill those open positions.
For job seekers, one of the keys to landing a new position is identifying the right fit. Which open jobs are best suited to an individual’s skills, experience and credentials? A successful search also involves researching potential employers to determine the organization’s history, reputation and prospects for the future, as well as the salary and benefits.
One of the best ways to get to know a healthcare employer is to take a temporary position that provides an “inside perspective” on the organization’s culture and its commitment to caring for patients, clients and families. As a national leader in flexible healthcare staffing placements for more than 20 years, All Medical Personnel can help job candidates obtain a temporary or permanent position and make a positive change in their lives.
